At this time (in the 1851 census) there is no record of his father John Warkup. His mother (Hannah) had already re-married George Wilson. He and his elder brother Thomas were living with George and Hannah at the time of the 1851 census. Since John was born in 1843, John's father John must have died / disappeared / divorced (still to be determined) between 1843 and 1851. George Wilson (his step-father) was a shoemaker(master) in the 1851 census, and Thomas had become an apprentice. This is how the Warkups became shoemakers. Prior to this they had almost all been involved in agriculture. By the time of the 1861 census, John was still living with George and Hannah, but was no longer an apprentice. He was now a shoemaker. In 1911 census, we have John Warkup (aged 67) living in beeford with his wfie Elizabeth (aged 58). Also in the house is an illegitimate grand-son John William Warkup (aged 14) - see below On John's death certificate, the informant is Harold Morley (grandson). We have currently been unable to identify who Harold Morley is.
