Churches Visited

The following pages shows a sample of the churches visited during the research. More will be added as we manage to obtain images. The majority of images below are from visits to establish details of the unconnected Warcups. We will revisit the churches more associated with the Warkups and the main tree when we get chance.

Flamborough Church

Flamborough Church This is the Church of St Oswald, Flamborough. the churchyard is the main focus of the attention on the web-site. Details can be found on the separate Flamborough page link off the main page.

Levisham Church

Levisham Church This is the Church of St John the Baptist, Levisham. We currently have John Warcup b1814 & family from the tree buried here.

Lockton Church

Lockton Church This is St Giles' Church, Lockton. A branch of the main Warcup tree (descendants of Francis Warcup b1785 & Hannah Metcalf b1790) lived in Lockton. A number emmigrated, but we should find a few of them amongst the Monumental Inscriptions.

Thornton le Dale Church

Thornton Le Dale Church This is All Saints' Church, Thornton Le Dale. A branch of the main Warcup tree (descendants of William Warcup b1819 & Elizabeth Harper b1819) lived in Thornton.

Hutton Cranswick Church

Hutton Cranswick Church This is St Peter's Church, Hutton Cranswick. We currently have no Warcups buried here. There are however, a number of Kirby's which may link to the main tree once we've had chance to investigate and wade through the data.

Appleton Le Street Church

Appleton Le Street Church This is All Saints' Church, Appleton Le Street. We currently have no Warcups buried here. There may be relatives of the unconnected Warcups buried here. The descendants of John Warcup b1769 and Catherine Smith b1759 were born and lived in Appleton Le Street.

Amotherby Church

Amotherby Church This is St Helen's Church, Amotherby. We currently have one Warcup buried here (Margaret Warcup 1805-1861) still to identify.

Beeford Church

Beeford Church This is St Leonard's Church, Beeford. We have 20+ Warkups buried here, all on the Main Tree, descended from John Warcup b 1679 and Milchy Leconbry b 1683 of Flamborough. There are all War'K'ups rather than War'C'ups. We have identified 90+ people currently on the main tree in Beeford, and suspect there will be many more.

Burton Pidsea Church

Burton Pidsea Church This is St Peter and St. Paul's Church, Burton Pidsea. There are 2 Warkups buried here. We have John Warkup b 1762 and his wife Bathsheba Coniston b 1760. They are the top of the Burton Pidsea family. Unfortunately the stones are no longer available. They have sadly been removed and destroyed so we only have the inscriptions.

Hornsea Church

Hornsea Church This is St Nicholas' Church at Hornsea. There are 6 Warcups buried here, all on the main tree. Only part of one of the stones remains, but the others are intact, with photos available from our usual indexes. We have 2 of wives of Isaac Warcups (b1815)both called Mary, 2 of his sons William Bulson Warcup & John Warcup, and a niece Mary, daughter of John Dunn Warcup. (This last stone mentions a wife of John Dunn called Elizabeth. We must have more research to do as we currently only have 2 wives, neither called Elizabeth.)

Withernwick Church

Withernwick Church This is St Alban's Church at Withernwick. There is only 1 Warkup buried here : John Warkup (1795-1864) who is the head of the Withernwick Warkups. We also have a number of 'Hewson' images not yet catalogued. (John's wife was Ann Hewson, who was also of Withernwick.)

Skipsea Church

Skipsea Church This is All Saints' Church at Skipsea. There are 8 Warkups buried here who are on the main tree. There are also numerous other families e.g. Watts, Cammidge, Dixon, Sowersby etc who are all related and on the main tree. It is Skipsea, along with Beeford, where a large number of the Warkups originated, so we fully expect most of the families in these towns to eventually be related.

Skerne Church

Skerne Church This is St Leonard's Church at Skerne. There are no Warkups buried here, but there are a number of Kirby's. It is suspected that some (if not all) these Kriby's will eventually be added to the main tree.

North Ferriby Church

North Ferriby Church This is All Saint's Church at North Ferriby. There are no Warkups buried here, but it is where the Calvert's are buried. There 5 Calvert's buried here, all during the 1900's.

East Ayton Church

East Ayton Church This is St. John the Baptist's Church at East Ayton. We know there are Warkups who married and were buried here. These families are on the main Tree, but we have not identified them all yet.

Driffield Chapel

Driffield Chapel This is Chapel in Driffield Cemetery. We have a total of 10 Warcups buried here, the largest number after Beeford. There are some Warcups on the main tree, and some which we have not yet linked to ours.

Walkington Church

Walkington Church This is All Hallows Church at Walkington. We have only 1 Warcup here. It is Mary Jane, wife of Fred (on the main tree) who is descended from the Burton Pidsea branch.

South Cave Church

South Cave Church This is Chapel in South Cave Cemetery. We have a total of 4 Warcups buried here, all descended from the Withernwick Warkups (despite being buried as Warcups rather than Warkups).
